SunCoChem showcased at the European Researcher’s Night 2024!
The SunCoChem project was featured on Friday 27th of September at the European Researcher’s Night 2024 event UNIGHT, held in Turin, Italy. Project partners from Politecnico di Torino (POLITO) presented activities related to the electrochemical conversion of CO2 into valuable products, along with the latest outcomes of SunCoChem Project.
The project’s technical coordinator, Simelys Hernández, along with team members Federica Zammillo, Hilmar Guzmán, Luqman Hakkem, and Giulia Cuatto, engaged with the public for the whole Friday, explaining how SunCoChem aims to reduce the European Chemical Industry’s dependence on carbon feedstock and lower its greenhouse gas emissions. Freddy Liendo from Hysytech joined the event to feature the TRL 3 prototype together with POLITO team.
The team devised specific activities for kids and families. Federico Dattila, Marie Skłodowska-Curie post-doctoral fellow within the SuPERCO2-101104004 project, and Giulia Cuatto organized the game “The sustainable goose hunts CO2” (Italian: “Gi-oca circorale a caccia di CO2”). Participants had the opportunity to play the Sustainable Goose game, e.g. to move along the board by answering questions on sustainability. Besides, they could play in teams by making chemical molecules out of plastic balls and bonds. Teams earned points based on the market value of the molecules they formed, making the activity both educational and engaging.
The European Researcher’s Night is a continent-wide initiative celebrated across the European Union. In the Piedmont region of Italy, the event called UNIGHT was organized by Università di Torino and Politecnico di Torino. It featured a range of activities on September 27 and 28, 2024, across multiple cities including Turin, Cuneo, Savigliano, and Mondovì. The goal of UNIGHT was to encourage active public participation in the research process, enhancing its impact on daily life and addressing the critical challenges that affect both human and planetary health.
