SunCoChem project results presented at the International Conference on Environmental Catalysis in Sicily
Project partners from Politecnico di Torino (POLITO) showcased some key results and achievements of SunCoChem at the 13th International Conference on Environmental Catalysis (ICEC2025), held from June 2-5 in Isola delle Femmine (Palermo, Sicily – Italy).
Hilmar Guzmán, Assistant Professor at POLITO, delivered a presentation titled “Scaling-up the Electrocatalytic CO₂ Capture and Conversion to Syngas”, highlighting the latest advancements in the electrochemical cell developed within the project in collaboration with Hysystech.
In addition, Simelys Hernández, Associate Professor at POLITO and SunCoChem’s Technical coordinator, was invited to serve on the conference’s scientific committee, further contributing to the event’s academic and technical discourse.
The SunCoChem project, which ended in October 2024, has developed a reactor prototype to manufacture chemicals using renewable energies drawing on carbon dioxide (CO2) recovered from the chemical industry and solar energy. This innovation manages to reduce costs, reduce CO2 emissions and improve the efficiency of converting energy from sunlight to chemicals.
