D1.2 - Preliminary selection of the anode and cathode PEcats composition - Executive Summary
In this document, the synthesis and characterization of multi-heterojunction photoelectrocatalysts for Z-scheme mimicking is described. The synthesis and characterization of hybrid photoelectroanodes based on BiVO4/Ru-dye/Ru-cat are described. Although their activity in the photoelectrochemical water oxidation reaction has not been evaluated yet, a preliminary assessment has been made to evaluate the performance of BiVO4 electrodes prepared by a standard spray deposition technique in comparison to a photoanode prepared with the BiVO4 powders synthesised with a scalable method. Moreover, the synthesis and characterization of hybrid photoelectrocathodes based on Cu2O/SnO2/Ru-dye/Re-cat are described. Under half-reaction conditions, the Cu2O/SnO2/Re50 photocathode achieved the best results in terms of reached J (20 mAcm-2) and photocurrent contribution generating a ratio of H2:CO similar to 1.
